A MEETING-OF-THE-MINDS FOR THE NEW MUSIC COMMUNITY

“‘Genre Lines,” a new music weekend summit embedded within the 2019 Nief-Norf Summer Festival taking place the weekend of June 14–15, 2019 in Knoxville, TN. In this summit, we will examine music that has defied, reaffirmed, and/or blurred the boundaries of genre in experimental music of the past 50 years.“ -Nief Norf

• Nick Zammuto’s Green Yellow Green Red (2014), performed by Aaron Michael Butler

• Cassie Venaglia, Experiment with Haikus, performed by Lucy Yao (piano) and Lily Shababi (violin)

•Madhuvanti for solo harmonium with electronics, performed by Igor Iwanek

• Kristina Warren, Intimidators (2019), solo for Exo.Rosie

• Robin McLaughlin, In the Beginning (2019) for spoken word, flute, piano, percussion, and lighting design (Krisztina Dér on flute, Erik Schmidt on percussion, and Socrates Razo speaking text)

• Jay Derderian, Ludic Loops (2018), performed by L+M Duo: Laurel Black (marimba) and Marianne Parker (piano)

• Nico Muhly, Flexible Music (2002), performed by Kyle Blake Jones (saxophone), Chelsea de Souza (piano), Sean Brennan (guitar), Matthew Overbay (percussion)
